A Horse’s tail winter (The magical man)
It’s winter now the sun dips low. I can feel the air as it bites my ears and tingles down my back. My nose has to push down as the earth is hard. Crunchy sounds are under my hoofs as I pad along my paddock.
I know it’s winter my coat is on and when I sniff the air it’s crisp and cold . My owner foretold of this time when the last golden sun dips down and the green green grass is lost underneath the crunchy ground.
That’s the time when darkness falls and the sun is so much lower now. The old man comes bearing gift for all. I have my blanket under my coat it keeps me warm my owner comes each morning to give me fresh hay, the goats have come too. They pull at my hay. Which cause it to fall all over the ground. Stop pinching all the hay goats. I stamp my hoof on the earth and it makes the ground crack loud. I’ll show those goats. It’s my paddock.
I lift my head up high to shake my mane I love how it swishes around my ears and my eyes tilt toward the sky. Oh how I miss the glorious sun of summer time the smell of the grass the buzzing bees and how the warmth and light engulfs me.
But winter is here for now no golden rays of longer hours but shorter ones with damp misty air and bitting winds.
What’s this upon my snout a gentle soft white flake lands on the end off my nose followed by another then another again .
This is the magic of winter that my owner talked to me about. Where a kindly old man who wonders the sky. Flying so fast and is never seen by eyes. His sleigh is filled with wonderful things. He brings good cheer and happiness within. He spreads peace to all hoof or claw.
The gentle softly falling sky touch all and sticks to my mane. I shake my mane up high. What-was the twinkling sound I hear? A sound of bells. Definitely I think but not so clear.
The ground has gone now and in its place a white cold blanket covers all it touches.
Oh it’s winter time and all is different in my paddock. I lift my head up high and hear a Ho Ho Ho from the darkness , out of the sky. Sshh! goats, shh! he is here the magical man with a beautiful beard...
