A Horses tail... Autumn
Autumn
I sniff the air and it tingles in my nose. Something has changed the light from the sun seems so much gentle now in my paddock.
The grass is difficult to eat. I have to push my nose right down into the soft earth. It sticks to my nostrils so I shake my head high to shake it off. It makes my mane swish around my ears. Swish, swish, swish all day.
A big bumblebee flies by buzz, buzz, buzz go away a bee. I snort hard and a cloud of warm steam comes from my nose. Go away bee. Go away.
In the distance, I hear a gentle hum. Slowly I turn my head to one side and prick my ear foreword. The light from the sun gentle hits my eyes, it’s more golden and less bright.
I notice the trees at the bottom of my paddock are changing. It’s Autumn Time-I know this as my owner told me “when it gets too cold we will have to put your coat on,” she gently brushes my mane and I nuzzle her face. Telling of how the trees all turn a beautiful red, orange and sometimes they’re tinged with yellow golden brown.
Bit by bit they change; the gauze, the bushes and the grass. Then I will have my coat put on. When the last green leaves. This is Autumn telling of the Winter to come.
As then it will be frosty, where the earth beneath my hoofs will crunch and my nose will not be able to push into the ground to graze. My owner will bring me hay. To munch on all day.
But now, it’s early Autumn still. The sun has some warmth in its delicate rays.
I trot down to the bottom of the paddocks to watch the machine as it slowly moves up and down each field. The birds fly behind chasing it around. Up and down. It hums to itself and the hungry birds.
And the corn, the corn is all golden now and soon there will be none.
It’s Autumn time and I sniff the air it tells of colder times to come. But not today as today I bask in golden light and trot and shake my mane high. It’s still warm in my paddock and the sun, the sun still shines on.
