They've got to go... them goat's...

I like having goat's at the bottom of the garden it's nice seeing there smiley faces popped through different levels of the back fence. You never know which level it will be, sometimes it's the bottom, then the top or in sheer desperation for something even yummier, the middle.  Which is a tight squeeze  for anybody because of the wire fence bit.

We have a lot of Strawberries in the garden and I don't always get to eat them before Mister Marvellous Mouse and friends (that's right they live in the Old Shepherds tumble down house). It has become a daily event who will get the strawberries first, will it be me or will it be them.

I wait for the strawberries to ripen  in the sun looking all plump and juicy. I stand  and watch  from the kitchen window, looking, waiting ever so patiently for the correct juicy redness. Before gently picking them of their stalks.

Sometimes I take my eye of them for just a second (as to be quit honest there is a lot to do here a furry cottage).  Or sometimes I even have to leave them over night just to plump up and ripen a little more.  Low and behold  however by next morning little mousey teeth marks have appeared in the plump, juiciest ones.

Mrs Goat  has been keeping a keen eye on the Strawberry saga with a deep interest as she has been benefiting from mousey teeth marked strawberries all week.  I throw the strawberries her way and she almost does acrobats to catch them. Mrs Goat does indeed love Strawberries. Her face is a delight to behold.

I was doing the throwing  of strawberries thing, when I felt a swirly twirl around me lower leg followed by a Miow.  As I looked down Miss Furry herself was standing with her hardest stare ever, almost with  her paws folded and with a what do you think you are doing look on her small dainty face.

Mrs Goat  made an audible gulped, and with an ooh this isn't going to go well look on her face... I said to Miss Furry, "stop staring at me so hard I am only giving the lovely sweet faced Mrs Goat the strawberries that Mister Marvelous Mouse has tasted."  The furry stare got harder at this point Mrs Goat started to back slowly away side stepping toward her shelter with a look of your on your own.

I said and for some reason feeling a little guilty, " look you can't eat a strawberry with mousey teeth marks in can you, be reasonable"...

Miss Furry's tail went up straight  high  with a slight question mark shape on the end, followed by her nose  almost twice as high and with a swish and a flounce she walked back to the house.

" They've got to go them goats"... " that's just a furry liberty that, they are my strawberries them are"...

Helen Lewins is an author. Helen was born in Northumberland but due to the closure of the coal mines, her parents moved the family to North London to take up work as publicans. After school, she started an apprenticeship with an electrical engineering medical company where she worked for many years as a Service Engineer. With a calling for something else more creative she went travelling in the UK and worked the summer in a hotel on the Jurassic Coast. This led her to study hospitality management and after graduation, she took on a role as a hotel Manager back in Northumberland. Then her life changed forever and along came her beautiful son. It became obvious early on that he was developing at a different rate from his peers. He had limited speech until he was eight years old. Eventually, after quite a long journey he was diagnosed with Autism. That is when Helen started to write about Miss Furry to entertain her son as it was based on their pet cat. It has been a very personal journey for them both and Helen hopes that Miss Furry brings joy to other children. Helen and her Son live in Northumberland with Miss Furry who does indeed spend her days patrolling the fence.
