My story goes untold...

Over there in the distance  is the crumbly shepherds house.  We can see it from our back garden. You can just see the form on the horizon. It's a peculiar structure to look at. There are also no roads to it, the only way is just  through fields and burns.

In the old days a shepherd lived there and his flock would surrounded him. The cottages where we live now would not have been here then.  All of the area would have been grazing land and woodland.

I wondered how it would be to be so alone within your surroundings and removed from other people. Would he have been lonely, tending his flock all day?. The nearest village to us is 3 miles and then, the roads would have rather basic.

The house however always seems sad though no longer fulfilling its potential.

The walls no longer,
Hold me up.
I see the sky within,
The feeling of the tumbling down,
Upon the sodden ground.
Saddens me, behold.
No one comes to help me back.
And no one hears my cry.
My story goes untold my friend.
No more a house am I...

Helen Lewins is an author. Helen was born in Northumberland but due to the closure of the coal mines, her parents moved the family to North London to take up work as publicans. After school, she started an apprenticeship with an electrical engineering medical company where she worked for many years as a Service Engineer. With a calling for something else more creative she went travelling in the UK and worked the summer in a hotel on the Jurassic Coast. This led her to study hospitality management and after graduation, she took on a role as a hotel Manager back in Northumberland. Then her life changed forever and along came her beautiful son. It became obvious early on that he was developing at a different rate from his peers. He had limited speech until he was eight years old. Eventually, after quite a long journey he was diagnosed with Autism. That is when Helen started to write about Miss Furry to entertain her son as it was based on their pet cat. It has been a very personal journey for them both and Helen hopes that Miss Furry brings joy to other children. Helen and her Son live in Northumberland with Miss Furry who does indeed spend her days patrolling the fence.
